Our Hiring Process

The hiring process at Shaver Transportation is structured to find the best candidates. It begins with an online application for posted job openings, followed by a WedgeHR virtual interview for selected applicants. Successful candidates then participate in an 
on-site panel interview for a comprehensive assessment, culminating in the final hiring decision.

Captain, Deckhand and Shop Requirements

Becoming a Captain, Deckhand, or filling another role at Shaver involves several prerequisites to ensure safety and compliance. Candidates must pass a Functional Capacity Exam, a Merchant Mariner physical, and a DOT Drug Test. Additionally, securing a Merchant Mariner Credential (MMC), a Transportation Workers Identification Credential (TWIC), and presenting a valid Driver’s License are mandatory for employment.

What to Expect if Hired

A pre-employment physical (including successful completion of a Drug and Alcohol Test) is required. In addition, new employees will be required to join the Masters, Mates & Pilot’s Union (MM&P). Also, employees will be required to obtain a Merchant Mariner Credential (MMC) from the US Coast Guard, and a Transportation Worker Identity Credential (TWIC) from the Department of Homeland Security.
